Workshop

Workshop 12. Flexible Bronchoscopy Workshop

Time, Place and Language
Nov 2 (Sat) 13:30-17:30, Room 9, English
Moderator and Instructors
Moderator :
Lars Konge (University of Copenhagen, Denmark)
Description
Flexible bronchoscopy is a clinical procedure that requires good technical skills to perform. These skills can be acquired through hands-on training on phantoms, simulators, or patients (supervised). However, theoretical knowledge on the anatomy and the technique is a prerequisite for mastering the procedure. This workshop headed by Professor Lars Konge will use a combination of informative lectures and extensive hands-on teaching. Participants will learn the step by step approach to bronchoscopy, knowledge about bronchial anatomy and understand how to perform bronchial wash/BAL, brushing and biopsies. Hands-on stations with supporting instructors will be available for supervised practice. At the end of the course, the participants should be able to master the skills of maneuvering the bronchoscope in a gentle and effective way while identifying all bronchial segments. Professor Konge will provide structured feedback to participants on their competency level based on a validated assessment tool and diplomas will be awarded. All participants will receive the booklet: “Bronchoscopy in the ICU” for continued practice and training of junior colleges in their home institution.
